Web Woes

As previously reported, the union's new website is up.
The website cost $50,000 to build. Though it took longer than expected, it is a vast improvement on the previous one. Many union services have been streamlined into it, with the jobs database and marketplace being given much more prominence. Despite this, many affiliates, including the Clubs Association (new website in development), and the Sports Association, intend to keep maintaining and/or build their own websites. It is rumoured that other affiliates intend to follow suit, although this has yet to be confirmed. Their reasons for doing this aren't hard to guess: they want more functionality and control over their own content, and, rightly or wrongly, don't trust the union to provide this as quickly as they can do it themselves.
On Dit was ordered by the union to take down its fledging site last year. As the link above shows, the new website hardly offers much in terms of promoting student media, at least currently. The pdf format hardly helps matters, when most other student magazines of On Dit's standing nationally have much more developed web sites (of which Woroni is one of the best examples).

Old Website: circa 1998 chique
