Mission Statement

Maelenna (secret code-name) and M Robin (less inventive secret code-name, yours truly) are both writers for On Dit, the student newspaper at the University of Adelaide. Due to word limits inherent in the print edition, as well as a ludicrous turnover (in 2009, four weeks from deadline to distribution!), Maelenna decided in 2008 to take the columns online, for those who want more readily avaliable information on how their student union - allegedly your representatives to the university community, government and broader society (*shudder at the thought*)- is running. I joined the team from the 2008 student elections in October.
Most of the work done by the AUU is through either its professional positions, or through its affiliated organizations. The Board of the AUU, eighteen elected student directors, however provide strategic direction, and are the easiest way to find out what the various affiliated bodies and staff are up to. As such, the vast majority of things written by Maelenna and myself refer to AUU Board meetings, which take place at least once a month.
Of late, we've tended to prefer shorter posts on specific issues as opposed to long ones covering everything that took place at a meeting. What can I say, readers love pith. That and scandal. For those still interested in knowing everything that went on, as opposed to what we thought was newsworthy, we'll still endeavour to cover every meeting in depth once a month (for anyone wanting a copy of our uneditted notes, as taken at the meeting, feel free to contact us).
This blog will also try to include posts on issues relevant to students, coordinating that with On Dit where possible.
Those in the know are encouraged to contact us if we have any of our facts wrong, or to pick holes in our arguments when we feel strongly enough about an issue to write an editorial on it. They are most encouraged to do this by commenting the relevant post.
Others who wish to post comments are encouraged to do so. Our comments policy is, at the moment, vague. If we don't see it as offensive, we'll leave it. We'd like to censure as little as possible, and have not felt the need to as yet. If it becomes an issue we'll set out some guidelines.
Yours Truly
M Robin

Maelenna is a Media graduate who is completing an International Studies Degree. M Robin is doing a double degree in International Studies and Economics, and nowhere near completion
