The Thursday 22nd Board meeting had the most observers of any since the office-bearer elections. For those who didn’t attend, this is what you missed out on watching:
• Andrew Anson impressively manage to be both nice and utterly horrible at the same time
• Jake Wishart master the art of the ironic commendation. Also, Jake needing to wash his mouth out.
• Rhiannon Newman needing eyes in the back of her head to ensure the speaking list is up to date.
• Yasmin Freschi making the startling observation that university education benefits students, a point lost on some. Yasmin generally got very annoyed at this meeting.
• Lavinia Emmett-Grey getting more annoyed that Yasmin. Yea, understatement of the century.
• Mark Joyce being unrelenting. And, at one point, eloquent. Mark did a lot of other stuff too: he's usually good to watch
• Aaron Fromm putting himself in harms way for the principle.
• Minority board directors not abiding by their own widely proclaimed policy of abstention from issues in which they have a conflict of interest *evil glare*
• Jason Virgo being entirely reasonable and undramatic. Fletcher O’Leary, Ashleigh Brook, Daniel Bills, Ben Foxwell and the Passion kids also fall into this camp. Essentially, not taking up Board’s time with countless questions and speaking points. *tisk tisk*, letting the team down guys.
• Paris Dean make full use of his right to frequent, conspicuous and borderline politically expedient cigarette breaks.
• Passion earning their stripes
• The Liberal ‘faction’, well, not.
• Andres Munoz-Lamilla making wide facial movements, evidently part of a secret language shared by him and Lavinia.
• Matthew Taylor being Matthew Taylor.
• And my being the most biased reporter, like, ever.
Seriously, I don’t understand why everyone doesn’t attend AUU Board meetings. They’re so much fun.
