On Tuesday the 20th of January, a training session was scheduled for AUU Board directors. This was the second such session scheduled during the three-month university summer break. Given that most board directors are new to Board this year (Lavinia Emmett-Grey (President, Indy-Go), Rhiannon Newman and Paris Dean (both Activate) being the only returnees), such training sessions are likely to prove useful for most.
However, after arriving at 8.30 am for the scheduled start of the session, which was to go on until five, board directors were informed that it had to be cancelled for lack of attendance. On time were Lavinia Emmett-Grey, Rhiannon Newman, Daniel Bills (Pulse), Aaron Fromm (Clubbers), and Yasmin Freschi (Clubbers). Needless to say, they were not impressed, Aaron, Rhiannon and Yasmin making this clear via facebook status updates. Ben Foxwell (Pulse), Andrew Anson (Pulse) and Paris Dean (Activate) arrived before 9.30 am.
Jake Wishart (Indy-Go), Fletcher O’Leary (Activate) and Jason Virgo (Activate) provided apologies in advance. Ash Brook (Indy-Go) had informed Board that he would miss the beginning of the session due to Student Radio Training (this was also the reason Jake and Fletcher weren't able to attend).
Absent without apology were the other six Board directors, namely Mark Joyce (Clubbers/Liberal), John Bowers (Liberal), Sonja Jankovic (Liberal), Ye Yang (Passion), Jianbin Jiang (Passion)and Fei Tang (Passion).
Update: One if the difficulties with appologies was that they were sent to a few different people, meaning that some were not noted/taken into account due to organizational difficulties. While it is disappointing to note the number of directors who were unable to attend, it is worth noting that the three Liberal directors (Mark Joyce, John Bowers and Sonja Kankovic) sent appoligies to AUU General Manager David Coluccio. Given that I was wrong about the Liberal appologies, it is possible that the three Passion candidates also sent appoligies via some channel.
